Description |
Engraving from the series Life of the Virgin, done by Marcantonio Raimondi from Albrecht Dürer, depicting the Visitation. In the foreground Elizabeth and the Virgin embrace, as Zachary stands in a doorway. A small lion-like dog wanders in the foreground. A group of three women stand to the right. The far distance shows a view of craggy, mountainous land with a mountaintop castle. Dürer's monogram appears, a mark that Raimondi was no longer allowed to use following Dürer's suit in the court of Venice. Numbered "8" on the plate. |
