Description |
Engraving depicting Don Quixote held by the wrist and dragged off his horse by hands coming from a barred window. Two men on horseback appear on the left. After a 1724 design by Charles-Antoine Coypel, in reverse and with elements added by Schley to rearrange the image into a vertical format. Part of a set of engravings primarily designed by Coypel (newly engraved by Schley, Bernard Picart, and others) produced in the 1730s-1740s. These engravings, with captions in French, were also used in the 1746 de Hondt edition of Les principales aventures de l'admirable Don Quichotte. Numbered "IX" on the plate. |
