Description |
Woodcut depicting St. Louis of Toulouse, from Leonhard Beck's series of saints connected with the House of Habsburg. Created and originally printed 1516-1518, reprinted in Vienna by F. X. Stöckl in 1799 (and erroneously attributed to Hans Burgkmair) as Images de saints et saintes issus de la famille de L'Empereur Maximilien I. St. Louis is shown as a bishop, holding a crozier in one hand and a paddle with the acronym INRI in the older. His crown lies on the ground at his feet. A coat of arms with two eagles rampant and the early Habsburg lion rampant hangs on the wall. Numbered "69" on the plate. |
